The right application photo in your CV
An application photo is voluntary in Germany. If you use a photo, it should be current, high quality and appropriate for the position you are applying for - not look like a private passport or holiday photo.
Is an application photo mandatory?
No. Companies are not allowed to require a photo. An application without a picture is complete. In some countries and international companies, a photoless CV is even common.
Size and position
Approximately 4.5 × 6 cm or a similar portrait format is common. The image is usually at the top next to the contact details or on an optional cover page. Sufficient resolution and a smooth crop are important.
Clothing, background and expression
Orient yourself to the industry and position. Choose well-groomed clothing, a neutral background, soft lighting and a natural, friendly facial expression.
