Correctly explain gaps in your CV
Gaps in your CV are not an automatic disadvantage. It is crucial to name periods in a transparent, concise and factual manner and to focus on development and current suitability.
What is considered a gap?
Short transitions of a few weeks usually do not need to be explained. If you have been without training, employment or comprehensible activity for several months, an honest description makes sense.
Appropriate formulations
Possible information is “career reorientation”, “active job search”, “further training”, “parental leave”, “caring for a relative” or “health break – fully recovered”. Be truthful and concise.
Show activities during time off
Continuing education, language courses, projects, volunteer work or independent learning can be relevant. However, only mention actual activities and do not create an artificial connection.
Explain in the interview
Prepare a short, calm answer: state the reason, describe sensible steps and explain why you are now ready for the new task.

Häufige Fragen
No. Short transitions are normal. Longer periods should be stated briefly and honestly.
A purely annual format can seem imprecise and generate questions. Uniform monthly and yearly information is usually more transparent.
Factual terms such as active job search, professional reorientation or further training are suitable if they correspond to the truth.
