In front-of-house service, hosts and restaurant managers care most about your guest focus, your presentation and your experience with the type of venue. Make clear whether you have worked in fine dining, banqueting, hotels or quick-service restaurants and which tasks you have taken on.

Resilience, friendliness and teamwork are decisive. Show that you keep an overview even when the venue is busy, are familiar with till systems and advise guests competently. Experience with wine or drinks recommendations and foreign-language skills are a clear plus.

Frequently asked questions

What belongs in a waiter's CV?

Your previous roles in hospitality, the types of venue, experience with till systems and cashing up, and foreign-language skills. Friendliness and resilience should also come across.

Do I need hospitality training to work in service?

Not necessarily. Many service roles are open to career changers and casual staff. A qualification in hospitality is, however, an advantage, especially in fine dining.

How important are foreign languages?

Very important. English is often expected in service, and in tourist areas further languages too. State your level honestly.
