Applying as a Internship: what matters
Internship adverts in the UK usually ask for a short CV rather than a long one. Recruiters skim the top third of the page, so put your degree or A-level subjects, your year of study and the dates you are free to start right there.
Give every experience a line of its own: work experience placements, weekend and holiday jobs, volunteering, and any committee role in a society or sports club. Say what you did and add a number where you can, for example how many hours a week you worked or how large the audience was that you wrote for.
A few UK conventions are worth keeping. Leave out a photograph and your date of birth, keep the spelling in British English, and close with one line saying that references are available on request. The UCAS personal statement belongs to your university application, not to this CV.

Professional summary / About me
„Business student in my second year at Bristol, applying for a marketing placement. I run the social accounts for a small local company on Saturdays and I am treasurer of the university marketing society, so budgets and schedules are familiar ground. I am organised, comfortable talking to customers and quick to pick up new software.“

- Give the exact dates you can work, including whether you are available during term time.
- Group placements, weekend jobs and volunteering under one Experience heading, newest first.

Checklist for a Winning Resume & Application
Align your core competencies and career experience directly with the target job specifications. Highlight relevant professional certifications, technical tools, and specialized expertise prominently near the top of your resume.
Quantify your career achievements with concrete metrics, percentages, and project outcomes rather than generic task lists. This provides hiring managers with immediate evidence of your practical contributions and work ethic.
Utilize a clean, standard chronological structure with standard section headers. This ensures modern Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) can parse your background and match your resume to employer requirements.
Carefully verify all contact information, dates, and spelling before submitting. Always export your resume as a pristine, high-resolution PDF document to ensure formatting remains flawless on every device.
Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions applicants ask most about resumes and applications.
Does a UK internship CV need a photograph or my date of birth?
Neither is expected. UK employers recruit on merit, so leave the photograph, your date of birth and your nationality off the CV unless a specific role asks for a security check.
Should I paste my UCAS personal statement into the CV?
No. The UCAS personal statement is part of your university application. The internship CV instead carries your A-levels or degree, the dates you can work and the skills the advert names.
How long should an internship CV be in the UK?
One page of A4 is normal for a student or recent graduate. Two pages only make sense once you have several years of relevant paid work behind you.
