Which sections belong in a UK chronological CV?
A UK CV reads top to bottom in a fixed order: personal details, personal statement, experience, education, skills.
Personal details
Name, town or city with postcode, phone and a professional email. No photo, no date of birth and no National Insurance number.
Personal statement
Two to four lines at the top: who you are, what you do and what you are applying for. Rewrite it for every role.
Work experience
Most recent role first, with responsibilities and one or two measurable results per position. Present tense for your current job.
Education
GCSEs, A levels, BTEC or your degree, most recent first, with grades where they help.
Skills
Technical, language and IT skills, plus professional memberships that the advert asks for.
References
One line only: “References available on request.” The details go to the employer at interview stage.
Chronological or reverse-chronological?
Reverse-chronological is the UK standard: current role first, then earlier ones. Recruiters read the top third of the first page and decide from there.
A strictly chronological order (oldest role first) is rarely requested today and makes your most recent experience harder to find.
