What belongs on a professional cover page?
A good cover page gives the recruiter an overview of your documents in seconds – name, target role and what is enclosed.
Heading & target position
A clear subject line such as "Application for the Marketing Manager position" tells the reader straight away which role you are applying for.
Company details
The full company name, the named contact and the address - copied exactly from the job advert, including any reference number.
Professional application photo
Optional in the UK: a neutral headshot in business dress is acceptable, but many employers prefer a CV without a photo.
Applicant contact details
Full name, city and postcode, phone number, email address and links to your LinkedIn profile or portfolio.
List of attachments (contents)
A clean list of every document in the application: CV, cover letter, cover page and certificates.
Short profile & key skills
Optional but effective: 3-4 bullet points on your strongest skills, tailored to the job advert.
The correct order of your application pack
In the UK there is no fixed dossier order, but this sequence works for most applications:
CV
Page 1: the document recruiters read first – two pages of A4, reverse-chronological.
Covering letter
Page 2: your letter for this specific role, one page, addressed to the hiring manager where possible.
Cover page
Optional first page when you send several documents: name, role and a list of what is enclosed.
Portfolio or certificates
Only when the advert asks for them – keep it short and relevant.
