Amazon UK Warehouse CV: Applying to a Fulfilment Centre

Auf den Punkt gebracht
Amazon recruits fulfilment centre associates in large batches, and the online application decides most outcomes before a person reads anything. The CV still gets read at interview stage, and it is where a site manager checks two things: that your shift availability matches the rota, and that your right to work is already settled. Write for those two questions first, then for the physical side of the job.

What a fulfilment centre screens for

  • Shift availability – nights, weekends, ten-hour shifts and the peak rota from late September to December. Name the shifts you will take, not the ones you prefer.
  • Right to work – passport, visa or settled status, checked before the first shift. State it in one line.
  • Physical capacity – lifting, walking and time on your feet. A site runs to rate targets, so stamina is a hiring criterion.
  • Attendance record – length of service and reliability from previous employers, because absence is the biggest cost on a shift rota.
  • Safety awareness – any induction, PPE or manual handling training you have completed.
  • Start date – the earliest date you can begin, because intakes are fixed and a late starter loses the slot.

Writing the CV with no warehouse history

Most associates arrive from retail, hospitality, cleaning, care, driving or study, and the processes are learnable in a week. What is not learnable in a week is turning up for a night shift for six months. So build the CV around pace, accuracy and reliability, and translate the work you have done into the language of a distribution site: volume per shift, accuracy rate, targets met, equipment used. If you have worked a hand-held scanner, a pallet truck or an order picker, say so by name. Do not claim experience of a process you have never seen; the assessment at interview is practical and it shows. Ask someone who has done the job what a rate target feels like on a ten-hour shift, then describe your own work in comparable terms: items per hour, vehicles per shift, tables served, rooms cleaned. That translation is the whole task of this CV.

Bullets that read like the job

  • Picked and packed 180 orders per shift at a 99 per cent accuracy rate, working to a scanner-led process.
  • Worked nights and weekends through a Christmas peak, with no unauthorised absence across four months.
  • Loaded and unloaded cages and pallets, lifting up to 15kg repeatedly and follow the site manual handling rules.
  • Sorted returns and checked condition against the manifest before restocking to the pick face.
  • Completed site induction, fire safety and PPE training, and kept a clean, obstruction-free aisle.

Peak season, agencies and the interview

Hiring runs in waves, with the largest intake between September and November for the Christmas peak and a second wave in the new year. Many roles start through an agency on a fixed-term contract before converting to a permanent one, so ask which entity employs you and keep both names on file. The interview is short and structured: availability, safety, teamwork, and a short test of attention and basic numeracy. Bring the documents for the right to work check and your National Insurance number. Expect a drug and alcohol policy, a locker and a security pass, and be ready to say which shift patterns you can genuinely sustain. A new site spends its first weeks on training, and the rota is built around it, so agree to the shifts you can keep for six months rather than the ones that look best on paper.

FAQ

No. Associates are trained on site, and retail, hospitality, cleaning or driving work translates well. Show pace, accuracy and attendance instead.

Name the shifts you will accept, for example nights, weekends and ten-hour shifts across peak. Being specific is what gets an application moved forward.

Often yes, on fixed-term contracts that can convert to permanent roles. Ask which company employs you so the CV and the contract agree.

One or two pages of A4. Warehouse hiring reads for availability and reliability, so keep the top third short and factual.
