The credentials block that goes first
- Professional registration – NMC, HCPC, GMC or GPhC number and expiry, and whether it is current.
- Right to work – status and any visa expiry, in one line.
- DBS – enhanced or standard, with the update service status if you subscribe.
- Band and specialty – the Agenda for Change band you have worked at, and the clinical area.
- Mandatory training – dates for life support, safeguarding, manual handling and infection control.
Evidence the shortlisting panel scores
Panels look for the situation, your action and the outcome, in clinical terms:
- Managed a 24-bed ward as shift lead, coordinating 6 staff and escalating two deteriorating patients using NEWS2.
- Reduced missed medication doses on the unit by introducing a checked handover sheet.
- Completed 120 hours of clinical placement in an acute medical unit, including venepuncture supervised practice.
- Delivered safeguarding training to 15 colleagues as a link nurse.
Showing NHS values without slogans
Every NHS trust recruits against its values framework. Do not write that you are compassionate; show a line where you acted on it – a complaint you resolved, a patient whose discharge you coordinated, a colleague you supported through an incident. Values questions are scored in the supporting statement and at interview, so the CV should hand the panel concrete material to ask about.
Format, length and referees
Two to three pages of A4, no photo, no date of birth. Use the person specification headings as section titles where you can, so a panel member can find the evidence without hunting. Referees: a current clinical manager and one other professional referee, with professional email addresses rather than personal ones.
