The line to write
Examples that survive screening: Work authorization: open work permit, valid to 03/2028 · Post-graduation work permit (PGWP), valid to 11/2027 · Employer-specific work permit; a new LMIA or exemption would be required. State the type honestly – an employer-specific permit presented as open fails at the offer stage and costs you the role.
What to leave off
- No document numbers, UCI or permit file numbers.
- No immigration history or pending applications, unled by the one-line status.
- No requires sponsorship unless that is true for the role's full duration.
Permanent residence and PR pathways
If you have an Express Entry profile or a provincial nomination in progress, you do not need to mention it unless the employer asks. When it is relevant – longer contracts, public sector roles – one clause (PR application in progress) is enough, without dates you cannot guarantee.
Where the permit status belongs relative to experience
Put it in the header block, not in the summary. Then make the experience section Canadian-legible: Canadian titles, province, and the scope of each role. Employers sponsoring or hiring permit holders are looking for evidence that the role can be done from day one, so name local tools, standards and credentials.

FAQ
State it only if the role will require it within your permit period. For an open permit with two years remaining, say that instead, with the date.
Yes, particularly where the role matches a labour shortage. Some public sector and security-sensitive roles require permanent residence or citizenship.
A Labour Market Impact Assessment is what an employer needs to hire a temporary foreign worker in many streams. Mention it only if the employer raised it, or if your permit is employer-specific.
In the header block on page one, one line, with dates. Not in a paragraph and never at the end of the resume.
