Translate the three things that block screening
- The degree – give the Canadian equivalent and any credential assessment (WES, ICAS, IQAS, CES) with the date.
- The job title – use the Canadian title in the headline, with the original in brackets if it adds context.
- The employer – add one clause: telecom operator with 4,000 staff, equivalent to a national Canadian carrier.
Work authorization in one line
Under your contact details: permanent resident, citizen, or the permit type and expiry – for example Open work permit valid to 03/2028. Employers will not guess, and an ambiguous status is the most common reason a strong newcomer application is set aside. Never include a document number.
Language proficiency and local proof
State your language levels the way Canadian employers read them – CLB or IELTS bands if you have them, or plain descriptors (fluent, advanced). Then add local proof: volunteering, a co-op placement, a Canadian certificate, or a first job in any sector. Six weeks of Canadian experience changes how the rest of the resume is read.
Format and references
Two pages, reverse-chronological, no photo, no date of birth, no marital status, and no full address – city and province only. Put references at the end: Canadian referees where possible, with position, organisation and phone number. If your referees are overseas, add their time zone and an email.

FAQ
For regulated professions yes, and several employers ask for one. For other roles it strengthens the resume but is not mandatory; list the assessing body and the date.
List the highest credential first regardless of country, but add the Canadian equivalent so a recruiter can place it.
Two pages is standard in Canada; use the second page for translated context and credentials rather than more adjectives.
Where possible. Employers value local referees, so if you have none yet, add volunteering or a placement and ask that supervisor.
