State your status in one unambiguous line
Write it as a fact a recruiter can verify, for example: Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) – full work rights, valid to March 2028. If you are on a bridging visa while an application is processed, say so and state the conditions. Do not write “no sponsorship needed” unless it is true for the full period of the role you are applying for.
Never put a visa grant number, passport number or immi account details on a resume – recruiters do not need them and it is a privacy risk.
Translate overseas experience into Australian terms
Recruiters cannot map a foreign employer, title or qualification to local expectations, so do the mapping yourself:
- Give the Australian equivalent of your qualification, plus any skills assessment (for example an Engineers Australia or AITSL outcome).
- Convert titles: Article Assistant becomes Accounting Assistant, Chartered Accountancy Intern becomes Audit Associate.
- Add local context in brackets: employer of 400 staff, equivalent to a mid-tier Australian firm.
- Name the software and standards used locally – Xero, MYOB, Excel, AS/NZS standards – where you have real experience.
What to do about an employment gap while you studied
Most 485 holders have a gap covering their Australian degree. Treat it as evidence, not a gap: list the degree, the university and the completion date, then any placement, internship, volunteering, part-time work or research project during study. A short During study block reads far better than an unexplained hole in the timeline.
Local experience counts more than you think
One casual Australian job – retail, hospitality, university tutoring, warehouse – proves local referees, local communication style and an Australian tax file number. Even six weeks is worth listing, and it changes how the rest of the resume is read. If you cannot get paid work quickly, volunteering through a community organisation achieves much of the same effect.

FAQ
You should state your work rights, because it answers the question every recruiter asks. State the subclass and expiry, not your passport or grant number.
Some roles require permanent residency or citizenship, particularly in government and defence. Many private employers hire temporary graduates, especially where the role sits within your visa validity period.
For regulated professions yes, and for engineering and teaching a skills assessment adds credibility. List the assessing body and the outcome date on the resume.
Two pages is standard in Australia. Use the space to translate overseas employers and qualifications, and to show any local education, work or volunteering.
