Kmart Resume: Getting Shortlisted for a Retail Team Role

Store teams are built around trading peaks: school holidays, Christmas, click and collect. The hiring manager wants to know three things, so answer them on page one:

• Can you be rostered when the store is busy? Give days and hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Can you handle a high-volume till and a messy shop floor? Show any cash handling, POS or stock work.
• Will you still be there in three months? List previous jobs, study commitments and referees who will confirm your attendance.

Single column, A4, 10 to 11 point text. Order: contact details with suburb and postcode; a two-line summary naming the department; availability; experience in reverse-chronological order; skills (POS systems, stock replenishment, visual merchandising, manual handling); referees. No photo, date of birth or cover page – Australian retail applications do not use them.

• Processed 300+ transactions per shift during Christmas trading with no cash variance.
• Replenished and faced up four departments before opening, working to a 9am deadline.
• Reduced queue times at the service desk by triaging returns and click-and-collect orders.
• Trained three new casuals on the register and returns process during peak season.

If your work history is short, add a short Skills section covering what the role uses daily: EFTPOS, stock rotation, pallet jacks, planograms, customer service under pressure.

Seasonal hiring starts months before December and closes early. Apply with a resume that states your availability across the whole peak period, including public holidays, and name any previous seasonal or hospitality work. Update the dates at the top of the resume so it is obviously current – hiring managers skip documents that look years old.
