Where a Bunnings resume wins

The store sells to two different customers: a homeowner with a half-finished project and a tradie on a deadline. Your resume should show which one you can serve:

  • Product knowledge – name the categories you know: timber and landscaping, plumbing, electrical, hardware, paint, tools, garden.
  • Trade background – certificate III qualifications, apprenticeships, site experience, subcontracting.
  • Tickets – forklift, order picker, elevated work platform, White Card, driver licence classes.
  • Customer advice – examples where you solved a project problem, not just a transaction.

Tickets and licences worth listing

Only list what you can produce on request, but do list all of it. In a hardware store the following carry real weight:

  • Forklift licence (LF) and order picker (LO) – high-value tickets for yard and nightfill work.
  • White Card (general construction induction) – expected for anyone with site experience.
  • Trade certificates and state licences – plumbing, electrical, carpentry, cabinet making.
  • Current Australian driver licence and vehicle – some roles move between stores.

Structure for a retail or trade role

Use a single column, A4, 10 to 11 point text with clear headings: contact details with suburb and postcode, a three-line summary naming your product strength, then Experience in reverse-chronological order, Trade qualifications and tickets, Availability and two referees. Put tickets above experience if they are your strongest asset.

Describe work with materials and customers, not job titles alone: advised customers on timber sizing and fixings for deck builds, upselling 30% of those transactions into fixings and protection products.

Weekends, seasons and physical work

Bunnings trade is busiest on weekends, in spring and before public holidays. State weekend availability and any peak-season experience explicitly. If your work involves lifting, ladder work or outdoor yards, mention safe manual handling and any safety training – hiring managers screen for people who will still be on the roster in twelve months.

For yard, nightfill and trade-desk roles it is one of the most useful tickets you can hold, and it is usually listed as desirable rather than mandatory. Add the licence number and expiry date.

One page is fine for entry-level retail; two pages if you have a trade background, several tickets and years of site work.

No. Australian resumes do not use photos. Spend that space on product categories you know and tickets you hold.
