As a student you usually do not have much work experience yet – and that is perfectly fine. Recruiters know this and instead look at your school achievements, interests, strengths and any early practical experience such as work experience placements, part-time jobs or volunteering.
What matters is a clearly structured CV with no gaps that fits the role you are applying for. Highlight subjects that are relevant to the placement or apprenticeship, and use hobbies and involvement to show that you are reliable, motivated and a team player. A tidy, error-free layout makes a big difference here.
„Motivated Year 11 student with a strong interest in technology and hands-on work. I am reliable, learn quickly and enjoy working in a team. Through a work experience placement I would like to gain my first insights into working life and show what I can do."
Work Experience Placement
Mayer Auto Repairs · Birmingham · 02/2024 – 02/2024
Focus on school, grades in relevant subjects, work experience placements, part-time jobs, hobbies and volunteering. These show your strengths and motivation even without classic work experience.
One page is usually enough. Keep the CV clear and focus on the points that are genuinely relevant to the role or placement.
A photo is optional. For work experience or apprenticeship applications a friendly, tidy photo is welcome and supports the first impression, but it is not required.
